9.3Scanning business cards

Contacts
Available in:EnglishFrançais

On Scan contacts, you can turn photos of business cards or scanned PDFs into contact records. Bmator reads them with AI and proposes the people it finds; nothing is added until you confirm each one.

You can upload JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, or PDF files. Specific upload limits are shown on the page. Processing takes place in the background, so you can leave the page while Bmator reads the files. Reading costs a little AI credit, which is shown directly on the scan once processing completes. The uploaded files are deleted some days after you have decided on every person and are never added to your knowledge.

Starting a scan

  1. Navigate to Scan contacts. To review earlier batches, open Past scans.
  2. Choose New scan and select your business card photos or PDF documents.
  3. Allow Bmator to read the files. You can remain on the page or return to it later.

Reviewing and confirming contacts

Once reading finishes, Bmator proposes one person per card, displays how confident it is in the extracted details, and flags if a similar contact is already on file.

For each proposal, you can:

  • Choose Add as a new contact to create the record. The person is linked to their organisation, which Bmator creates automatically if it does not already exist.
  • Merge the details into the detected similar contact. You choose field by field what to replace. Any new email addresses and phone numbers are added to the existing record, and nothing already on file is removed.
  • Choose Dismiss to reject the proposal.

To process entries faster, you can use the bulk action to automatically add every confident proposal that has no existing match.
