19.1Getting started: your first company
When you open Reportomator for the first time, an onboarding sequence guides you through three setup steps: import your data, compute reporting values, and create your charts. The sidebar displays Setup Progress until you complete these steps. You can exit this flow at any point by choosing Skip for now.
Creating a company
In most workflows, a company is created automatically when you import its first FEC file. Reportomator reads the SIREN from the first nine digits of the file name and checks whether that entity already exists.
- If no company matches the SIREN, the New company dialog opens and asks for the company name. If you leave the name blank, Reportomator names the company "Company" followed by the SIREN.
- Click Create & import to create the company profile and import the file.
- If a company with that SIREN already exists, Confirm company asks you to confirm the destination before importing.
You can also add a company manually without importing a file by clicking Add Company and entering the SIREN and company name.
Navigating company tabs
Each company page contains dedicated tabs to review data and adjust configurations:
- Settings: Manage core accounting rules, conventions, and data parameters.
- Accounting entries: View and search imported ledger transactions.
- Connections: Link accounting software directly to sync data instead of importing files.
- Reporting node values: Inspect calculated balances and reporting figures.
- Opening balances: Review carried-over amounts across financial years.
- Stakeholders: Track people and organizations tied to the company.
- Observations: Store analytical notes and observations.
- Comments: Keep collaborative notes and discussions.
Key settings to check
On the Settings tab, three primary options change how entries and balances behave:
- Balancing convention: Set the display rule to either PCG (France) or Raw (debit − credit). This controls how each entry balance is signed in the accounting entries table. Note that this entry-level sign convention is not the same as how figures appear in final reports; see the dedicated chapter on signs for details.
- Data starts at inception: Enable the checkbox indicating that company data starts at inception if the first imported FEC covers the initial period of activity and has no prior opening balances to carry forward.
- Extra à-nouveau journal codes: Specify any non-standard journal codes used by your accounting software if it does not use the standard AN code for opening entries.
