14.8Getting started: the emails Bmator sends you
Bmator sends two kinds of emails: essential account messages and recurring platform updates.
Emails regarding your account—including address confirmation, password resets, security notifications, and updates when someone shares items with you—always arrive and cannot be turned off. These essential messages are not listed in your preferences.
Recurring emails can be turned off at any time. Bmator provides two recurring emails:
- What's new in Bmator: Sent once a month to users who have held an account for at least one month. It introduces new features released during the month, outlines a few short ways to use them, and includes direct links to where each feature is located.
- Getting started tips: Sent during your first week. You receive a welcome email once your address is confirmed, followed by a single reminder of your next step if you have not yet taken it.
Managing and stopping recurring emails
You can stop recurring emails at any time using any of these methods:
- Select the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any recurring email. The change takes effect at once without requiring you to sign in.
- Select the unsubscribe control provided by your email client next to the sender header.
- Sign in to your account, open your preferences menu, and select Email preferences. Use the switch next to any recurring email to turn it off.
After unsubscribing via an email link, Bmator displays Why are you leaving?. Answering this question is optional, and your response helps improve future content. If you unsubscribe by accident, you can select Subscribe again on that page. You can also turn any recurring email back on later in Email preferences.
Turning off reading tracking
By default, Bmator records whether a recurring email is opened and which links inside it are clicked to determine what information is useful. You can turn this tracking off for your account:
- Sign in and open Email preferences.
- Turn on the switch for Don't track my reading.
Once enabled, Bmator no longer tracks your opens or link clicks, and subsequent recurring emails will use plain links.
